Ohio Federation of Teachers Thanks Retiring State Superintendent DeMaria
Ohio Federation of Teachers thanks and recognizes retiring Ohio State Superintendent Paolo DeMaria for his long track record of public service for Ohio’s students, parents, and educators.
"From implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act to a forward-looking strategic plan through a pandemic year, Superintendent DeMaria has demonstrated that the best way to create an education system that serves and supports all students is by bringing stakeholders to the table, truly listening to their input, providing opportunities for civil discourse, and working towards consensus,” said OFT President Melissa Cropper.
Through his tenure, Superintendent DeMaria worked hard to elevate educators and to address issues of concern through workgroups and stakeholder meetings. This collaborative approach and his concern for serving the whole child helped him lead the Department of Education through development of the Each Child Our Future strategic plan and through the challenges of COVID-19 closures and public health guidelines.
"Superintendent DeMaria never missed an opportunity to elevate teachers and the teaching profession. Whether it was through public acknowledgement at speeches or appointing teachers to workgroups and task forces, Paolo valued educators as professionals and respected our experience and expertise."
The Ohio Federation of Teachers (OFT) is composed of 54 local unions representing 20,000 members who are active and retired public school teachers, charter school teachers, school support staff, higher education faculty and staff, and public employees.
