Your voice needed on overview of state ESSA plan

OFT continues to be concerned whether your voices as professional educators are heard by officials drafting Ohio's plan to implement the Every Student Succeeds Act. The Ohio Department of Education released a draft overview of the state ESSA plan for public comment. While this draft is a bare bones framework for a full draft to be released next month and final plan to be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education in April, it ignores educator input on changes needed around teacher evaluations and testing. It is critical that OFT members review the draft and provide feedback to ODE. The comment period is open now.

Start Talking! encourages conversation about drug, alcohol abuse

OFT is partnering with the Ohio Department of Education on the program Start Talking! which is designed to create an awareness and provide resources around drug and alcohol addiction in students. This week is National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week and parents are  encouraged to make talking with kids about the dangers of drinking and drug abuse a priority. View facts about substance abuse that may allow for discussions in the classroom or with parents.
