Elizabeth Jones is a retired HS English teacher and guidance counselor, and the current President of the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers Retired, Local 1520-R. Rudy Fichtenbaum is a Professor Emeritus of Economics at Wright State University and was a faculty member there from 1980-2015. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and served as the National President of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) from 2012-2020.
Rudy and Elizabeth are endorsed by the Ohio Federation of Teachers and the American Association of University Professors - Ohio Conference.
If elected to the STRS Board, they would prioritize restoring the COLA for retirees and fighting against additional cuts in healthcare benefits or pension benefits, including the creation of a two-tier pension system.
They would work to reduce investment and administrative costs and advocate for increased employer contributions to help reduce the unfunded liability in the pension. They would also focus on making STRS Board Meetings and proceedings more open and transparent.
