​​​​​​​Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an aspect of a child’s education that is integral in supporting academic success. Though Ohio has developed a set of SEL standards, SEL is not a subject like math, reading, history, or science. While it may be addressed directly, SEL skills can be infused throughout the instructional day. The five social emotional competencies addressed are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and making responsible decisions. MORE

Ohio Federation of Teachers (OFT), Ursuline College and Virtual Education Software (VESi) have partnered to offer OFT members access to online courses available for graduate credit.
 
The course membership is only offered to OFT members. If you are not an OFT member you will not receive credit for any completed courses.

Range-finding committees are necessary whenever a test contains “open-ended” questions which for ELA are essays. Using sample student responses, these committees establish the range of acceptable responses, from no credit to partial credit, to complete credit. Range-finding committees make recommendations to the Department to ensure all written-response test questions are scored accurately, fairly, and consistently. MORE
On January 9, 2021, Governor DeWine signed into law HB 436, which created a number of requirements to support educating dyslexic students.  A Dyslexia Committee was established.  Two of the tasks of the Committee are to: prescribe the number of clock hours of dyslexia-related professional development required for teachers; and phase in over three years dyslexia-related professional development requirements for public school teachers. Created for educators by educators (and other instructional experts), Teach It Online Now (TION) is a new, on-demand course designed to help educators develop the tools, techniques, and skills to more effectively engage, inspire, and teach online. The course includes 16 self-paced modules and there’s an opportunity to earn credit.
