State board of education OKs OFT-supported OTES changes

Student growth measures should be embedded in the rubric and not separated out, the state board of education determined this week in supporting recommendations from the Educator Standards Board. Recommendations still require approval by the state legislature. OFT appreciates the work and leadership of our members who sit on the ESB - Chair Jeff Cooney from Oregon, Sandy Orth from Toledo and Jim Wagner from Cleveland. See the full set of recommendations.

Access and Equity Conference addresses needs of whole child framework May 4

Register now to attend the OhioASCD’s Access and Equity Conference with keynote speaker and facilitator Pedro Noguera. OhioASCD invites a variety of education and community stakeholders to attend in an effort to have quality discussions that lead to collaborative actions that support and enhance the lives of children and their families. Apply to be a Mooney Scholar

OFT members: Do you have a child whose college plans are to study education, history, labor studies or political science? He or she could be a Mooney Scholar and get $2,000 toward college costs. Applications for 2017 are due April 13. Learn more.

Save the Date for 2017 Union Leadership Institute

This year's Bill Pasztor Union Leadership Institute (ULI) will be held June 20 -22 at the DoubleTree Suites, 50 S. Front St., in downtown Columbus. OFT's annual ULI is a skills-building conference to grow individual capacity to be a leader in the union and the workplace. Details about workshops for this year and registration will be available soon.
