Teacher input needed to inform career tech education

OFT encourages all teachers (not just career tech teachers) to give your perspective on the opportunities and barriers to including career tech education in the K-12 environment. Teachers can provide input by completing a survey conducted by the Ohio Department of Education. The survey will generate information needed for a grant that would allow Ohio to expand and improve career-focused education to better prepare students for high-skill and high-wage jobs. Share your input by Aug. 31.

OFT members encouraged to attend ODE stakeholder meetings on ESSA to amplify educator voice

State decision makers need to hear deeper and more meaningful stakeholder input on Ohio's plan for ESSA implementation. It is imperative that decision makers understand the educator perspective on what changes are needed to improve education. Equally important is the need to push decision makers away from the status quo and block them from a wrong minded compliance approach to ESSA. In order to take advantage of the opportunities for improving education via ESSA, OFT members are strongly encouraged to attend ODE stakeholder meetings. ODE is also hosting webinars for those interested in the more technical aspects of ESSA. Find a stakeholder meeting near you and see the webinar schedule.

Spring 2016 state test items released in scoring guides

Item Release Scoring Guides for Ohio’s 2016 State Tests in English language arts and mathematics are now available under Resources on the test portal. While OFT advocated for full release of past test items, this partial release from the spring gives educators insight into the kinds of questions students experienced and are useful tools to inform classroom instruction. Both teachers and parents may use the released items to help students know what to expect on future state tests. Learn more.
