(Columbus - Jan. 30,2013) Ideas pushed today by state Reps. Teresa Fedor, Debbie Phillips and Matt Lundy are spot on for where Ohio needs to focus its next education budget. Identifying early childhood education as a key priority is a huge step in strengthening the foundation of every child’s learning and future achievement. 

Teachers Respond to Legislative School Funding Hearings

Today's Legislative hearings on school funding casts a cloud over Ohio students and our public schools. At the invitation of legislators, spokespeople from the conservative education reform movement who ardently support alternatives to traditional public schools informed members of the House and Senate Finance Committees on their view of school funding. They included a representative of Michele Rhee's StudentsFirst, a lobbying group that pushes for the expansion of school choice and privatization through charter schools and vouchers.

Endorsements: OFT Supports candidates who support public schools, workers

The Ohio Federation of Teachers is encouraging members to vote for candidates who support public schools and workers by consulting our list of endorsements. Endorsements helps members understand which candidates have pledged to support their rights at work and support the public education and public services our members provide.

New President Elected to Lead Statewide Teachers Union

Melissa Cropper will be new vision, voice for Ohio Federation of Teachers  The Ohio Federation of Teachers Feb. 24 elected a full slate of new officers during the organization's annual convention held in Cincinnati. Melissa Cropper, a library media specialist, was elected to lead the statewide teachers union as its president.
