A program in Ohio that gives $20,000 vouchers to parents of children with autism to use at state-approved private schools and agencies is rarely used to provide a school setting for these children, according to a new report from Ohio Policy Matters, a state-based research think tank.

The final report of the Science and Mathematics Education Policy Advisory Council (SAMEPAC) calls for bold action to support economic growth, strengthen the system of math and science education, build upon existing programs and make high-level math and science courses available to all students.

A new study on improving performance in secondary education concludes that if Ohio is serious about creating breakthrough high schools, reform efforts will need a sharper focus on results, resources will have to be realigned and expectations for what students and teachers accomplish must be raised significantly.

(Aug. 9, 2005) The Ohio Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) and other parties affiliated with the Coalition for Public Education today filed a reply brief with the Ohio Supreme Court in their challenge to the constitutionality of Ohio's charter school system.
