Apply for the 2010 Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program
Print E-mail

Are you interested in learning about education in other cultures? The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program provides opportunities for K-12 teachers to participate in direct one-to-one exchanges of positions with colleagues from other countries for a semester or academic year.

Participating countries for 2010-2011 are the Czech Republic, France, Ghana, Hungary, India, Mexico, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. By living and working in the cultures of their host countries, exchange teachers gain an understanding and appreciation of the similarities and differences in national cultures and education systems. Fulbrighters enrich their schools and communities with a new awareness of other cultures and of events occurring in different parts of the world, providing students and citizens with new perspectives about the world in which they live.

The application process is now open for the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Programs for 2010-2011.  The deadline for applications for the Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange program is Oct. 15. The deadline for the new Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching is Jan. 15.

In 2010, the Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange program will enter its 64th year, and the new Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching program will initiate its second year of exchange.  Both programs are part of the larger Fulbright program named after Senator William Fulbright and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The Distinguished Awards program offers fellowships to highly accomplished U.S. and international teachers to conduct research, take courses for professional development, lead master-level seminars, and engage in other activities such as in-service training for local teachers.  During the program Distinguished Teachers will work towards the completion of a capstone project of their own design.  Upon returning home, teachers are expected to share the knowledge and experience gained on the program with teachers and students in their home schools and with their communities. Participating countries for 2010-2011 include: Argentina, Finland, India, Israel, Singapore, South Africa, and the United States.  Additional countries of exchange may be added this fall, prior to the January 15 application deadline.
