CHTU Update - November 5, 2009
Post-Clutch. The three CH-UH Board of Education candidates endorsed by our Union prevailed in yesterday’s election. Kal Zucker, and Ron Register won re-election, and Karen D. Gorman-Jones will be the new member joining the Board in January. Serving as an elected official is frequently a thankless job and one that is more and more challenging in these difficult economic times. It is important that we acknowledge the service of our BOE members and we appreciate their commitment to our students and staff.
Records Request. We were informed that the Ohio Department of Education has received two public records requests for the names and home addresses of all educators in ODE's licensure database. The department conferred with the Ohio Attorney General's Office and was informed that these records are subject to public disclosure. This means that every licensed teacher in Ohio will have their names and home addresses released to the individuals who made the public records request. We followed up with OFT and the ODE to find out who made the records request. One request came from Diane Chime, a Columbus insurance agent, and the other request came from Danielle Gagliardi with the Ohio Republican Party. We do not know the intentions of the parties making the requests, but we can surmise that political and insurance marketing mailings may be on their way.
Fraternally,
Tom Schmida, President
